Ethical Sustainability

Our Commitment to Social Responsibility

At Nature’s Expression, sustainability and ethical practices are at the heart of everything we do. From the way we source our products to how we pack and ship them, we're always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact and give back — both globally and locally.

Ethical Sourcing

We’ve built our sourcing philosophy around four key pillars of ethical and sustainable practice:

Fair & Honest

Our partners treat their workers with respect, providing fair wages and safe working conditions — with a strict no child-labour policy.

Transparency

We expect full transparency in mining and procurement practices, so we know exactly where and how our products are sourced.

Environmentally Responsible

We avoid working with suppliers who use extraction techniques harmful to the environment, aiming for low-impact and carbon-neutral operations.

Giving Back

Like us, our suppliers support their local communities — whether through fair trade initiatives or grassroots programs.

We’ve spent nearly 40 years building trusted relationships with our suppliers. We’ve visited mines, factories, and artisan workshops around the world, meeting the incredible people behind the products. When we can’t verify the ethics of a product’s origin, we simply won’t carry it.

We also understand the challenges of working across global markets where official certifications may not always be available. That’s why we rely on long-standing partnerships built on trust and accountability.

Supporting Artisan Communities

We source many of our goods from regions such as Bali, Brazil, Guatemala, and India, where local artisan communities benefit from fair trade practices. Most of our semi-precious stones and crystals come from family-owned mines — often passed down through generations, much like a family farm here in Canada.

All minerals we carry are sourced from suppliers with the appropriate mining certificates, ensuring safety and environmental care.

Want to learn more about how specific products are sourced? View our product pages to find detailed information on items like sage, abalone shells, Palo Santo, and Himalayan salt lamps.

Sustainability in Packaging

We made the switch years ago from Styrofoam to biodegradable packing peanuts made from cornstarch (yes, they’re technically edible — but we don’t recommend it!). We also reuse and recycle materials like newsprint and boxes from our suppliers whenever possible.

We’ve Gone Paperless

To reduce waste, we’ve moved to a fully paperless system. All order documents — including invoices, packing slips, and sales orders — are now sent digitally to your chosen email addresses. Our secure and encrypted server-based infrastructure ensures secure sharing of all necessary documents without printing a single sheet.

Giving Back Locally

We proudly support a number of Canadian charities and local causes, including:

  • Variety – The Children’s Charity

  • The Salvation Army

  • The Amanda Todd Foundation

  • The Vancouver Food Bank

  • The Canadian Red Cross

  • The Community Arts Council of Richmond

  • Maple Ridge Environmental School

  • The Annual Nite of Hope (Breast Cancer Awareness)

Many of our customers also host fundraising events, and we do our best to support these efforts with donations and prize contributions whenever possible.
