Bismuth is a pure metallic element similar to lead in both colour and weight. While bismuth can be found in nature in small quantities in the cubic crystalline state, most bismuth is man made. It was discovered by a West German scientist that unusual box-like shapes could be formed by cooling molten bismuth in a centrifuge. When freshly produced, it has a silvery white colour, surface oxidization gives it an iridescent tinge. In healing, bismuth is commonly used to reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness as well as to encourage transformation and change.
